Botulinum toxin is purified from bacteria and is used to block the nerves to muscles leading to muscles that cannot contract. Hence reducing unwanted facial wrinkles. It is used to reduce forehead wrinkles, wrinkles around eyes(crow’s feet), thick bands in neck, thick jaw muscles to soften a square jaw line, lift the corners of mouth and correction of gummy smile.
Patients should have realistic expectations to have satisfactory result after this surgery.
Surgical Procedure
It is a minimally invasive injection that’s given in the clinic without anaesthesia. It is injected in small amounts with very small needles into desired muscles. Forehead furrows may require upto five while crow’s feet upto three injections.
Effects Of Injection
Result is noticeable within a few days but mostly in a week. Effects last for 3-4 months and repeat injection are required.
Complications
Injection is generally safe however it can cause bruising, headaches, pain at injection site, temporary facial weakness.
Aftercare
One can resume normal activity immediately after the injection. Injection site should not be rubbed to prevent migration of injection.
